Pathway Necklace
enamel on copper, sterling silver, nylon cord
I recently completed the above, Pathway Necklace, to exhibit during the 10th annual Coveted Couture Gala and celebration of Picasso's Landscapes, Picasso: Out of Bounds, at the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC.
I was asked to create something inspired by the 40 works featured that span Picasso's full career. This was an opportune time to incorporate the enamels that I have been developing over the past several years. The pink layered glass surfaces have always reminded me of the sun bleached homes I observed while living in San Antonio, TX (2011-2013). Picasso's documentation of the Spanish landscape changing as a result of industrialization was the starting point for my creative tribute. I live in Asheville, NC, a community that has been heavily impacted by rapid growth over the past decade and as a result commercial and residential spaces in flux are abundant. Pathway Necklace, includes colors and fragmented shapes of the ever-shifting landscapes I have called home.
