March 2020, the early days of sheltering in place, I was having trouble finding focus and detaching from the daily news cycle. Walking, jogging, and surveying my surroundings became my way to find rhythm and calm. This daily habit turned out to be the inspiration for the Purlieus Series but before that I was making the occasional temporary jewelry to keep my hands active. I contacted photographer Mercedes Jelinek in the hopes she would help me to capture these ephemeral pieces. She agreed to the invitation to spend an afternoon taking images with me. These images and this day with Mercedes served as a springboard into the enamel work that followed.
