One-of-a-kind brooch, sold with optional wall mount.
Fruit represents immense joy and deep sorrow. In 2022, my husband and I welcomed our child into the world, just as the pandemic began to ease and life was opening back up. We entered parenthood with so much hope, only to be met soon after with the devastation of a hurricane that left our city reeling with loss. This work carries the tension of those experiences, the sweetness of new life entwined with the grief of unexpected disaster. Fruit honors how joy and sadness often arrive together, shaping us in ways we cannot anticipate.
The components of this brooch are the result of two years of process and lived experience. With each stage of my daughter’s growth, first in the womb and later earthside, new shapes and ideas emerged. The piece became a parallel evolution, reflecting both the passage of time and the unfolding of new life. The varied surface, material, and color are mixed, layered and tied to one another.
Additional Notes:
Fruit Brooch and the Seed Necklace are two foundational pieces in a body of work that I am currently developing for an exhibition set for fall of 2026.
